The most popular classic cycling tour along the route of the annual cycling race is the ascent to Vršič. The route runs past the Lek Hotel and continues along the lake Jasna, where it ascents steeply and passes Miha’s Lodge, The Woods Lodge, the Ajdovska deklica rest area and Tonka’s Lodge all the way up to the finish line at the 24th hairpin bend. The fastest of the racers made the ascent in just over 30 minutes. How well will you do?

Route plan: Vršič – Predel (Mangart) – Kranjska Gora

The first part of the route is the same as the one in Tour 1 but instead of returning to Kranjska Gora, it descends into the unspoiled valley of the Soča River, passing its spring through Trenta in the direction of Bovec. Shortly before Bovec the trail turns right towards the Kluže fortress, Log pod Mangartom and Strmec. After reaching Predel the trail continues past Rabeljsko Lake and descends to Tarvisio, from where we return back to Kranjska Gora via cycle track. Adventure enthusiasts can ascent to Mangart before reaching Predel.

Vertical gain: 800 m
Length: 111 km
Tour Type: Road, Trekking

Following the cycling track the trail descends to Mojstrana, from where we continue along the new cycling section to Jesenice, pass the town and turn to Žirovnica. The trail continues towards Lesce and descends to Bled. Make a stop in Bled and taste the traditional cream cake, of which as many as 12 million slices have been sold in the past 60 years! The excellent cream cake fills you with energy needed for the forthcoming ascent to Gorje, from where the trail descends to Jesenice and then continues along the cycle track to Mojstrana and Kranjska Gora.

Length: 82 km

Slovenia – Italy – Austria

Following the cycle track towards Reteče and Podkoren the trail descends to Tarvisio and continues in the direction of Val Bruna. At the end of the village the trail turns left following the trail of an old railway to Ponteba, where it ascents to Nassfeldpass. From the pass the trail descends into the valley and continues along the cycle track to Arnoldstein, where the local road leads to the last and extremely challenging to Korensko sedlo/Wurzenpass. After a short but steep climb (max slope of 18% ), which is a challenge for even the most prepared riders the trail descends to Podkoren and continues along the cycle track back to Kranjska Gora.

Vertical gain: 2000 m
Length: 125 km
Tour Type: Road, Trekking

Following the cycle track towards Rateče and Podkoren the trail descends to Tarvisio. At the railway station the trail turns towards the city centre where we stop for a cup of excellent Italian espresso. Going back along the same way with a slight climb from Tarvisio the trail then turns right towards the Belopeška Lakes at the crossroads. Following a slight ascent the trail continues along the road to the first and then the second lake, where we turn back and return to Kranjska Gora on the same trail. If you have any energy left on the way back we can make a stopover at Planica Ski Jump slopes (additional 2km and approximately 100m altitude).
