SUMMER ACTIVITIES

From May to end of October, Kranjska Gora is a lively place. There are various activities you can participate in such as MTB, road cycling, hiking and running. What makes the bike rides around here so interesting and unique is the fact that most of them will take you to three countries on one ride – Slovenia, Austria and Italy, be it on a road or mountain bike. The scenery is breath-taking; parts of trails are in a nature reserve, the Triglav National Park, which surrounding Slovene’s highest peak, Mount Triglav, and there is some history to be seen on the way as well. Travel through time, anyone?

For more ambitious road bikers there are plenty of epic mountain passes to cross, with gorgeous scenery and little traffic. To name a few names: Vršič Pass, Mangart, Predil, Wurzenpass, Korensko sedlo and Passo Pramolo. Hint: If you feel your time on Vršič Pass (some 12 km, and around 800 verticals) was pretty good, the Vršič Pass race is won at around 32:00 minutes every September.

You can choose to visit accessible natural attractions such as Zelenci lakes, Tamar and Vrata valley, panoramic points of the mountains such as Slemenova Spica, Mojstrovka and Cipernik as well as those beautiful, hidden corners, accessible only to connoisseurs.

For mountain bikers it is a paradise with single trails, old military ways, sights to be seen, switchbacks to overcome as well as endurance and technical skills to be tested. The best way to explore the hidden gems of Kranjska Gora and its surroundings is on a guided tour, which you can book at Berghi’s Reception. There is a mountain bike park nearby, where our certified stuff provides technical training and assistance to all, who wish to work on their technical skills.

A ski lift from Kranjska Gora to Vitranc (1578m) operates throughout summer. There is truly amazing scenery of the Julian Alps and Slovenia’s highest peak, Mount Triglav (2864m) to be admired from there.

For families, kids and seniors there is a bike only paved road from Mojstrana (14 km east of Kranjska Gora) through Martuljek and Kranjska Gora to Treviso in Italy or, if you prefer Austria, to Arnoldstein. This trail is a part of Ciclovia Alpe Adria.

Hiking is one of the most common forms of active holidays. Pleasant temperatures and fresh mountain air in Kranjska Gora guarantee a very special kind of pleasure when discovering the many sights and attractions in the area. There are around 20 drawn and described hiking trails suitable for families, children and moderately active visitors, who wish to experience firsthand the countless attractions of the Upper Sava Valley, as well as for experienced hikers, eager for more demanding tours.

WINTER ACTIVITIES

Snowshoeing is less known yet a very popular winter activity with characteristics similar to cross-country skiing or Nordic walking. This form of recreation requires nothing but a pair of snowshoes, a pair of hiking poles and of course some snow and you will be ready to overcome those snowy plains. Snowshoeing is appropriate for all age groups, as the level of difficulty and pace can be adjusted to the abilities of each individual.

There are many trails in the vicinity and our guests can choose to explore the nature alone or join our organized group tours. We make sure to always choose the safest and most appropriate trail for our groups, given the current snow conditions and fitness of individual participants.

Comfortable clothing, warm socks, hiking boots, hat and gloves are advised when considering snowshoeing. Guest can rent snowshoes and hiking poles at Berghi.

Sledding is enjoyed by all age groups. The area around Kranjska Gora has some sledding slopes, where you can go sledding on your own, or join a guided activity. There are many sledding slopes in the surroundings of Kranjska Gora: at Tromeja, Gozd Martuljek , Tamar and Krnica and there is also a sledding slope at the Kranjska Gora ski resort.

A limited number of wooden sleds and/or bobsleds are available for rent at Berghi.

There probably is no better way to see the beauties of the Upper Sava Valley than by cross country skiing. There are about 40 km of well -maintained cross-country trails for skate and classical cross-country skiing technique in Kranjska Gora and its surroundings. They take you from the center of Kranjska Gora past the spring of river Sava and Planica ski jump hill, deep in the Tamar Valley and back towards the forest Martuljek. There are also cross-country trails in Mojstrana. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts can enjoy the illuminated track behind the Kompas Hotel after sunset.
